Accessibility Statement
Our commitment
Goad is designed to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. We hold the app to the WCAG 2.1 Level AA standard referenced by the EU Accessibility Act.
If you find anything that doesn't meet that bar — or any rough edge that makes the app harder to use with VoiceOver, Switch Control, Voice Control, or any other assistive technology — please email goadplan@xymex.app. We respond within 5 business days.
What's supported
Vision
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| VoiceOver | Fully supported. Every interactive control has a label + hint. List items announce their state (priority, due time, recurrence). |
| Dynamic Type | Supported up to the largest accessibility size. The app uses system text styles (Font.body, .headline, .caption) which scale automatically. No truncation in critical actions at any size. |
| Bold Text | Honoured via system font rendering. |
| Reduce Transparency | Liquid Glass materials respect the system setting. |
| Increase Contrast | All semantic colours pass AA contrast. Brand teal accent is brightened in dark mode to meet ≥4.5:1. |
| Smart Invert | App correctly excludes images and brand assets from inversion via SF Symbols. |
| Reduce Motion | All non-essential animations are gated on accessibilityReduceMotion. The toast slide-in becomes a fade. The smooth list reorder snaps. |
Motor
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| Switch Control | All buttons are reachable via the system focus order. |
| Voice Control | Buttons have semantic labels so "Tap Plan today" / "Tap Add" work. |
| 44pt tap targets | The complete-checkbox, the FAB, the calendar day cells, and all toolbar buttons meet or exceed the iOS HIG 44×44pt minimum. |
| AssistiveTouch | Standard gestures only (tap, swipe, long-press). No multi-finger gestures required for any feature. |
Cognitive
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| Plain language | Body copy is written in plain English. No jargon. Every error message proposes a fix. |
| Consistent navigation | Tab bar persists. Toolbar placements follow Apple HIG (cancel left, primary right). Sheets always have a Cancel button. |
| Confirmations on destructive actions | Delete on a task requires a confirmation dialog. Streak reset / pause is reversible. |
| Time-pressure relief | The Skip rate-limit is opt-in (1/7 days), not coercive. Quiet hours block notifications. |
Hearing
The app is text-first; there is no required audio output for core flows. Custom notification sounds (3 escalation tiers) are optional and can be disabled per task or globally. The system handles sound playback respecting silent mode + Focus.
Known limitations
We're transparent about gaps:
- Live Activity timer announcement — VoiceOver reads the
Text(.timer)countdown by recalculating on each focus, which can feel chatty. Apple's default behaviour; we cannot override. - Calendar Week strip — On the smallest accessibility size, day labels may abbreviate beyond what some users prefer (e.g. "M" instead of "Mon"). Tapping a day still announces the full date.
- Recurrence picker — The 7-button weekday selector is a custom row. VoiceOver announces each as "Monday, Selected" / "Tuesday, Not selected" etc.; switching modes between Weekly and Biweekly may re-read the row.
If any of these is a deal-breaker for you, email us and we'll prioritise.
Testing methodology
We test every release against:
- iOS Accessibility Inspector audit (Xcode → Open Developer Tool → Accessibility Inspector → audit tab) — every flagged issue gets a fix or a documented justification.
- VoiceOver walkthrough of the happy path: Today → tap task → edit → save → back. We verify every element is announced with a meaningful label + hint.
- Dynamic Type stress test at the largest accessibility size.
- Colour-contrast spot-check with macOS Digital Color Meter against light + dark backgrounds.
Conformance claim
Goad aims to meet EN 301 549 / WCAG 2.1 AA.
The known limitations above are partial conformance gaps. We're working to resolve them in subsequent releases.
Feedback + contact
Please report accessibility issues to goadplan@xymex.app.
Tell us:
- What you were trying to do
- What assistive technology you were using (VoiceOver, Switch Control, etc.)
- What happened vs. what you expected
- Your iOS version + device model (the in-app "Send feedback" flow pre-fills this for you)
We respond within 5 business days. Critical issues (blocking core flows for assistive-tech users) get a hotfix release.
